Tuna Tartare

Tuna tartare just sounds fancy doesn't it?! Some of my girlfriends joke around that part of the reason I make this recipe is because it's fun to say...they are definitely right.

Grab a few of the fresh ingredients listed below and follow the quick directions for a crowd pleasing appetizer. This recipe is best when eaten the same day it was made.

Ingredients:
  • 1 fresh tuna steaks (you can typically find this near the deli meats section)
  • 3 tbsp  olive oil
  • 1 limes, zest of, grated
  • 1cup freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 2 teaspoons wasabi powder or creme...I've used minced horseradish as well
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp kosher salt
  • 1 tbsp fresh ground black pepper
  • 1 bunch green onions; chopped
  • 1 large minced fresh jalapeno peppers, seeds removed
  • 1 ripe Hass avocadoes
  • 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds

Directions:
  • Cut the tuna into 1/4-inch dice and place it in a large mixing bowl.
  • In a second bowl, combine the olive oil, lime zest, lime juice, wasabi, soy sauce, salt, and pepper.
  • Pour over the tuna, add the green onions and jalapeno, and mix well.
  • Cut the avocados in half, remove the seed, and chop into 1/4 inch cubes
  • Carefully mix the avocado into the tuna mixture; so that the lime juice covers them. Once you drizzle the lime juice on the avocado it will prevent them from browning.
  • Add the toasted sesame seeds and allow the mixture to sit in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour for the flavors to blend.
  • Serve on crackers of your choice.
